The wedding ceremony is the official act of marriage. In Germany, only the civil ceremony is legally binding. Many couples supplement it with a church or non-religious ceremony.
The civil ceremony usually takes 20-30 minutes. Church ceremonies are more formal and last 45-60 minutes. Non-religious ceremonies are completely customisable.
